Justin Smith, BSc(Hons) MIEEM, is our lead ecologist. Justin has studied fungi for over 25 years, has published various papers on mycological subjects, and has led over 100 fungus forays. He has undertaken extensive fungus surveys in the UK, Macaronesia, Germany, Chile and Argentina, and has worked with Bristol University to create a systematic method of fungus recording by mapping.
Justin has also studied and undertaken surveys for lichens and bryophytes for over 10 years in sites around the UK. He has delivered over 40 identification courses in fungi, lichens, bryophytes, ferns, trees, ancient woodland, and grassland ecology for organisations such as Bristol University, IEEM, Somerset Environmental Records Centre, and local Wildlife Trusts.
Justin is a member of the British Mycological Society, British Lichen Society, and British Bryological Society, and he helps manage the North Somerset Fungus Recording Group.
